Bakersfield, CA (June 24, 2025) – A man was killed early Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run crash while walking near the intersection of Baker and Sumner Streets in East Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Incident Details: The collision occurred around 2:17 a.m. Police responded to reports of a man lying in the roadway and found the pedestrian suffering from major injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Investigators believe the victim was walking in or near the roadway when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene without stopping or rendering aid. Authorities have not released the victim’s name, pending family notification.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Bakersfield Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the fatal hit-and-run. Officers are reviewing surveillance video from the surrounding area and asking for help from the public to identify the driver and vehicle involved.
