Pedestrian Killed, Another Critically Injured After Car Jumps Curb in Westlake Crash

Los Angeles, CA (May 12, 2025) — A 45-year-old man was killed and another man critically injured late Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle that veered onto a sidewalk during a two-car collision in the Westlake area of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Incident Details: The crash occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. on May 11 at the intersection of Eighth and Alvarado Streets. Authorities said a vehicle traveling southbound on Alvarado collided with another westbound vehicle on Eighth Street. The force of the impact caused the southbound vehicle to spin out of control, jump the curb, and strike two men walking on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection.

Both pedestrians were transported to a nearby hospital, where one of the victims was pronounced dead. The second man remains in critical condition.

The current condition of the two drivers involved in the crash has not been released, and it is unknown whether speed, distraction, or impairment played a role.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate the sequence of events that led to this fatal pedestrian strike. Authorities will analyze whether either driver ran a red light, failed to yield, or was driving at an unsafe speed.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, surviving family members of the deceased may pursue a wrongful death claim, and the injured pedestrian may have grounds for a personal injury lawsuit to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.

I extend my condolences to the loved ones of the man who was killed and hope for a full recovery for the surviving pedestrian.
