Pedestrian Henry Broncy Dies After Being Struck by Car in Oceanside

Oceanside, CA (July 29, 2024) – An 83-year-old man named Henry Broncy tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident that occurred one week prior.

Accident Details: The incident occurred on Monday, July 29, 2024, around 7:31 a.m. at the intersection of Rancho Del Oro Drive and Via Rancho. Broncy was crossing the street outside of a marked pedestrian crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 46-year-old Oceanside resident. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the authorities. The collision resulted in severe injuries to Broncy, who was subsequently transported to a hospital. Sadly, he passed away on August 5, 2024.

Investigation: The Oceanside Police Department is asking for witnesses to come forward if you have information about the accident.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. California law requires drivers to exercise caution when approaching pedestrians. Failure to yield to a pedestrian can result in liability. However, Broncy was outside the marked pedestrian crosswalk. This factor might implicate California’s comparative negligence laws and affect the recoverable compensation.

While no criminal charges are currently pending, the family of Broncy may still pursue a civil claim for wrongful death. This legal action could seek damages for funeral and burial expenses, the loss of companionship, emotional distress, and other related impacts on the victims family.

My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Henry Broncy during this difficult time.
