Pedestrian Fatality Near UCSF Parnassus Campus Claims Life of Jose Chow

San Francisco, CA (October 22, 2024) – On Tuesday morning, October 22, 2024, Jose Chow, a 70-year-old resident of San Francisco, was fatally struck by a large construction vehicle near the UCSF Parnassus Campus.

Accident Details: The tragic incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. near Parnassus Avenue and Stanyan Street. Chow was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities report that the driver remained present to cooperate with the investigation. According to police, impairment does not appear to have played a role in the collision.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that determining liability in fatal pedestrian accidents requires close examination of several factors, including:

  • Driver inattentiveness,
  • Traffic law violations,
  • Adherence to federal regulations for truck drivers,
  • Poor road conditions,
  • Inadequately designed area for pedestrians, and
  • Improper signage.

If negligence is found, Chow’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim to seek justice and compensation for their loss.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jose Chow’s family and friends during this challenging time. I hope they find the comfort and support they need.
