Lancaster, CA (June 25, 2024) – In the early hours of Tuesday, Brittany Brown, 30, was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in the bicycle lane along Avenue I in Lancaster.
Accident Details: According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. as a sedan traveling west on Avenue I collided with Brown, who was also heading west. Brown suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation: The role of speed in the crash and whether the driver was impaired are under investigation. Authorities are calling for anyone with additional information to assist in the investigation by contacting the Lancaster sheriff’s station.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects require further examination. The speed at which the sedan was traveling is a critical factor. If the driver exceeded the speed limit or was driving recklessly, this could point to negligence. Any indication that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol could significantly impact the case. California law imposes severe penalties for impaired driving. Also, given the early morning timing of the accident, the visibility conditions at 2 a.m. could have contributed to the incident. Examining street lighting and whether the area is adequately marked for pedestrian safety will be essential. If negligence is found, Brown’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim. Investigators also must determine why Brown was walking in the bicycle lane. Was she forced into the lane due to unsafe conditions on the sidewalk, or was there another factor that led her to be in the path of the vehicle? These questions are vital for a comprehensive understanding of the incident.
My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Brittany Brown during this heartbreaking time.
