Hesperia, California (February 10, 2026) — A 23-year-old Hesperia resident was killed Tuesday in a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Phelan Road. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified the rider as Patrick R. Trask.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:47 a.m. on Phelan Road, west of Highway 395, near the new Amazon warehouse facility.
Incident Details: Authorities say the collision involved a black 2005 Buell motorcycle and a silver GMC 2500 pickup truck. A Good Samaritan began performing CPR on Trask before deputies arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. Despite those attempts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcycle sustained catastrophic damage and came to rest near the double yellow centerlines, with major components separated and debris scattered across both directions of travel. The GMC 2500 was stopped in the eastbound lanes of Phelan Road, partially off the roadway, with visible front and front-side damage.
Investigators noted that the positioning of the vehicles and debris suggests the impact occurred within the eastbound travel lanes. The adult male driver of the pickup and an adult female passenger were not injured. Authorities confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.
Phelan Road was closed in both directions for several hours while deputies processed the scene.
Investigation: The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision. At this time, officials have not publicly stated what factors may have contributed to the crash.
In motorcycle collisions, investigators typically examine vehicle speeds, lane positioning, right-of-way compliance, and sight lines. The analysis often includes measuring skid marks, mapping debris fields, and reviewing any available surveillance footage or witness statements to determine the sequence of events.
Given the severity of the damage to the motorcycle and the location of impact debris, reconstruction efforts will likely focus on whether either vehicle changed lanes, entered the roadway unexpectedly, or failed to yield. Traffic flow patterns along Phelan Road, particularly near industrial developments with increased commercial vehicle activity may also be evaluated as part of the broader safety assessment.
No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Legal Considerations: Motorcycle crashes frequently raise complex liability questions because riders are more exposed and vulnerable to catastrophic injury. Even in the absence of impairment, investigators and civil attorneys may examine whether reasonable care was exercised by all parties involved.
Should the evidence ultimately demonstrate negligence, Patrick’s family could pursue a wrongful death claim. This claim seeks compensation for funeral expenses, financial losses, and emotional suffering resulting from the tragedy.
I extend my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Patrick R. Trask during this difficult time.
