Los Angeles, CA (March 28, 2025) – A passenger was killed early Friday morning after a driver suspected of DUI led police on a pursuit that ended in a violent crash near Los Angeles International Airport.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. after LAPD officers attempted to stop a suspected drunk driver near Hoover Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, close to BMO Stadium. The driver fled, heading toward LAX. The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into another car at the intersection of Sepulveda and Century Boulevards. The driver then fled the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers. The passenger in the suspect’s vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver involved was transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities will examine the circumstances of the pursuit and assess whether the driver’s actions amount to gross negligence or vehicular manslaughter. When a passenger is killed during a police chase caused by a fleeing driver, the victim’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim against the at-fault party. In such cases, the conduct leading up to the crash and any aggravating factors, such as intoxication or fleeing law enforcement, are central to potential criminal and civil liability.
My sincere condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased passenger.
