Pamela Galloway, 59, Killed in Long Beach Crosswalk Crash

Long Beach, California (March 24, 2026) — A 59-year-old woman was killed Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while crossing in a marked crosswalk in Long Beach, according to authorities. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Pamela Galloway.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:57–1:00 p.m. near Fourth Street and Ximeno Avenue in the Belmont Heights area.

Incident Details: According to the Long Beach Police Department, Galloway was crossing Ximeno Avenue within a marked crosswalk when a 2003 Toyota 4Runner struck her.

Investigators said the driver, a 53-year-old Long Beach woman, was turning left onto Ximeno Avenue from Fourth Street at the time of the collision.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and provided aid, but Galloway sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Preliminary findings indicate that speed, impairment, and distracted driving are not believed to have contributed to the crash.

Investigation: The Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail is handling the investigation. In pedestrian collisions occurring within marked crosswalks, investigators focus closely on right-of-way, turning movements, and driver attentiveness. Left-turn scenarios are particularly scrutinized because drivers must navigate opposing traffic while also checking for pedestrians.

Crash reconstruction will likely include analysis of vehicle position, turning angle, and line of sight, along with any available traffic signal data or surveillance footage. Investigators may also evaluate whether the driver had a clear opportunity to observe the pedestrian before initiating the turn. Even when impairment or speed is not a factor, these cases often hinge on whether the driver exercised reasonable care while making the turn, especially in areas with pedestrian activity.

At this time, no citations or charges have been announced. The investigation remains ongoing.

Legal Considerations: Pedestrian crashes in marked crosswalks often involve strong right-of-way protections under California law, requiring drivers to yield to pedestrians lawfully crossing the street.

If the investigation determines that the driver failed to yield while making a left turn or other unlawful action, that conduct may constitute negligence. In that case, Galloway’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can include compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, and loss of companionship.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Pamela Galloway’s family and loved ones during this challenging time.
