Wrong-Way Driver Killed, One Seriously Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Pacific Coast Highway near Point Mugu

Oxnard, CA (October 3, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision on the Pacific Coast Highway south of Point Mugu left a 29-year-old Oxnard man dead and a 23-year-old driver with major injuries late Friday night.

Accident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol’s Ventura Area Office, calls came in around 10:08 p.m. reporting multiple vehicles blocking lanes on PCH. Responders found a 29-year-old Oxnard man unresponsive on the roadway and pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators determined he had been driving a Hyundai Elantra northbound when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the double yellow lines into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with an Acura TSX. The Elantra driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of impact. Moments after the initial collision, a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling northbound struck the Acura. The Acura’s 23-year-old driver sustained major injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. The 38-year-old woman driving the Tahoe was not injured.

Investigation: CHP reports that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors at this stage. The Ventura Area Office is examining physical evidence from the scene—including vehicle resting positions, debris fields, and any skid or yaw marks—to clarify the sequence of events and contributing causes, such as speed or distraction. Officers are also gathering witness statements and reviewing potential dashcam footage. Anyone with information or video who has not yet spoken with investigators is asked to contact the CHP Ventura Area Office at 805-662-2640. The highway was closed for approximately two hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup, with all lanes reopening around 12:40 a.m.

Legal Considerations: Wrong-way crashes frequently raise questions about negligence, roadway awareness, and seatbelt use. Injured victims may consider pursuing claims to recover costs associated with emergency care, hospitalization, and rehabilitation, as well as wages lost during recovery and the pain and suffering caused by the collision. Depending on official findings, responsible parties may include individual drivers and, in certain cases, vehicle owners. Families impacted by fatal crashes may also explore wrongful death claims based on the results of the investigation.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic crash.
