MORIARTY, NM (July 18, 2025) – One person was killed and two others were hospitalized Thursday afternoon in a crash involving a semi-truck and a recreational vehicle on Interstate 40 near Moriarty, according to the City of Moriarty Fire Department.
Accident Details: The collision happened around 3:15 p.m. near mile marker 204 on the westbound side of I-40. First responders reported that the front of the semi-truck was heavily damaged, and the RV was torn into multiple pieces due to the impact.
One person died at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released by authorities. Two additional individuals were airlifted or transported to Albuquerque-area hospitals. One was listed in critical condition, while the other was reported to be in stable condition as of Thursday.
The crash temporarily closed westbound I-40, but the roadway has since reopened.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Several agencies, including the Torrance County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police, NMDOT, and the University of New Mexico Lifeguard Air Ambulance, responded to the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
