One Killed, One Injured in SUV and Dump Truck Crash in Maryland

Frederick County, MD (June 6, 2025) — One person was killed and another seriously injured Thursday morning in a crash involving a dump truck and an SUV at the intersection of Old Frederick and Devilbiss Bridge Roads, just north of Frederick, according to local authorities.

Incident Details:  The crash occurred around 8:56 a.m. when emergency crews were dispatched to the scene for a report of a collision with “heavy entrapment.” The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger, a woman, was flown by helicopter to a regional trauma center with serious injuries. The driver of the dump truck, a man, declined medical treatment at the scene, officials said.

As of Thursday evening, the identities of those in the SUV had not been publicly released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, with attention likely focused on the dump truck’s operation, potential right-of-way violations, and whether either driver was speeding or distracted. Investigators may analyze vehicle data, road conditions, and witness statements to determine liability.

Depending on the findings of the investigation, the victim’s family may be eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit, while the surviving passenger may have a claim for personal injury. These legal actions can help cover medical bills, funeral costs, lost income, and pain and suffering.

My thoughts are with the families affected by this tragedy.
