One Dead, One Injured in Five-Vehicle Crash on I-75 in Michigan

Oakland County, MI (March 11, 2025) — A five-vehicle pileup on southbound I-75 claimed the life of one man and left another injured Tuesday afternoon, according to the Michigan State Police (MSP). Investigators continue to examine what caused the chain reaction crash.

Incident Overview: The collision occurred just after 12 p.m. near Sashabaw Road and M-15. The Oakland County Road Commission closed two lanes for scheduled roadwork, funneling traffic into a single open lane.

A charter bus, driven by a 65-year-old man from Flint, was unable to stop in time and struck a red pickup truck in the right lane. The impact caused a chain reaction, pushing the pickup truck into an SUV, which was then forced into a utility truck. The utility truck collided with a silver pickup truck, and the bus ultimately crashed into the side of a semi-truck parked on the right shoulder.

The driver of the red pickup truck, identified as a 67-year-old man from Goodrich, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver sustained a lower-body injury and was transported to a local hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Emergency crews responded quickly to secure the scene and clear the wreckage while MSP began piecing together the sequence of events. The investigation will consider whether driver error, mechanical issues, or road conditions contributed to the crash.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the family of the deceased pickup truck driver may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, and emotional distress. The injured SUV driver may pursue a personal injury claim to recover damages for medical costs and rehabilitation.

My thoughts are with the family of the deceased and with the injured driver at this time.
