Nipomo, CA (May 15, 2025) — According to the California Highway Patrol, a head-on collision between a tractor and a box truck Thursday morning on Highway 1 near Division Street left one person injured and caused a small hydraulic fluid spill.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 8:50 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 1 and Division Street, blocking the roadway and requiring traffic to be diverted, officials said. The impact resulted in a significant but non-life-threatening injury to one driver, who had to be extricated from their vehicle by emergency crews, according to Cal Fire.
CHP Officer Trevor Ashby confirmed that approximately four gallons of hydraulic fluid spilled onto the surrounding soil due to the crash. Fortunately, the spill was contained before reaching nearby waterways.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and cleanup efforts caused delays in the area while responders worked to reopen the road.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Authorities will likely examine whether either driver was at fault for crossing the center line and evaluate potential contributing factors such as speed, distraction, vehicle condition, or poor visibility.
Pending the investigation’s findings, the injured driver may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim to recover damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
