Wheatfield Township, MI (April 27, 2025) – A 54-year-old Okemos man was killed Saturday evening in a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 96, according to the Michigan State Police.
Incident Details: Authorities responded to the crash around 7 p.m. on westbound I-96 near Meridian Road. Investigators say a semi-truck rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped in a traffic backup, causing a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles. The Okemos man, who was in one of the impacted vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. Other individuals involved sustained minor injuries, but no additional fatalities were reported. The crash led to significant traffic delays as crews worked to clear the scene.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Michigan State Police are continuing their investigation into the crash, examining factors such as speed, driver attentiveness, and roadway conditions. Investigators are also reviewing whether the semi-truck driver was following safe driving practices and maintaining proper distance during traffic congestion.
