Off-Duty Bexar County Constable Critically Injured in Crash with 18-Wheeler in Texas

San Antonio, TX (April 9, 2025) – An off-duty Bexar County constable is in critical condition following a crash with an Amazon 18-wheeler early Wednesday morning on Interstate 35, according to the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.

Incident Details: The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-35 between O’Connor Road and Crosswinds Way, an area under active road construction at the time. According to officials, the constable was working a lane closure when the semi-truck struck his vehicle, which was parked with its emergency lights activated.

Emergency personnel transported the constable to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. He has been a member of the support unit for over 15 years, and the incident has deeply impacted the local law enforcement community.

The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) confirmed that the driver of the 18-wheeler was evaluated at the scene and was not found to be intoxicated. No additional injuries were reported.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The SAPD is actively investigating the incident. Authorities will likely investigate whether the truck driver’s failure to slow down or change lanes, road conditions, or mechanical failure contributed to the collision.

Depending on the investigation’s findings, the injured constable or his family may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim that compensates for medical costs, long-term rehabilitation, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
