Ocala, FL (August 13, 2025) – A crash involving four semi-trucks and a passenger vehicle shut down northbound traffic on Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 352, sending two people to the hospital.
Accident Details: Emergency personnel responded to the crash just after 3:49 p.m. A southbound semi-truck hauling corn suffered a tire failure, veered across the median, and entered northbound traffic. The semi overturned on top of a Honda Civic, blocking all three northbound lanes.
The two occupants of the Civic were rushed to a nearby hospital as trauma alerts. Their conditions have not yet been released.
Three other semi-trucks became involved in the chain-reaction crash. One collided with the overturned truck, and two more struck each other in a secondary rear-end collision. All semi-truck drivers were reported to be ambulatory at the scene.
During the crash, approximately 350 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the median, prompting a hazardous materials response.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: This crash highlights several key legal issues that will likely be central to determining liability. The cause of the semi-truck’s tire blowout will be critical. Investigators will assess whether it resulted from a manufacturing defect, poor maintenance, or excessive wear.
The involvement of three additional semis raises further questions about the following distance and reaction time. Investigators will also examine maintenance records, traffic footage, witness statements, skid marks, and the speed of all the vehicles to reconstruct the accident.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the injured individuals may be able to recover compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
I wish the two injured occupants of the Civic a fast recovery.
