Lexington, KY (October 1, 2025) – A late-night crash in Lexington involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle left one person dead and another critically injured.
Accident Details: Police responded to a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle on Newtown Pike near the Interstate 75. The collision happened around 10:20 p.m. when a car attempted to enter Newtown Pike from the interstate ramp and was struck by the oncoming tractor-trailer traveling outbound.
Two people were inside the car at the time of impact. One victim died at the scene, while the other was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.
The roadway was closed while emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene. Authorities said the Fayette County Coroner will release the identity of the deceased once the family has been notified.
Investigation: Investigators will focus on several factors to determine what happened, including the following:
- Scene documentation. Investigators recorded the final positions of the tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle, along with skid marks, debris, and damage patterns.
- Vehicle data. The tractor-trailer’s electronic logging device or “black box” may provide details on speed, braking, and steering before the crash.
- Road factors. Authorities will consider visibility, roadway layout, and traffic flow near the I-75 interchange to assess whether conditions contributed.
- Driver and witness statements. Interviews with the truck driver, the surviving passenger, and any witnesses will help reconstruct the moments leading up to the impact.
- Video evidence. Investigators may review surveillance or traffic camera footage to confirm the sequence of events and clarify how the vehicles collided.
The roadway was closed for several hours while emergency responders worked at the scene and the Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit examined the scene to determine how the events unfolded.
Legal Considerations: Collisions between tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles are often devastating due to the significant size and weight difference between the vehicles. Drivers of all vehicles are expected to exercise caution at all times.
If the investigation reveals that negligence contributed to this crash, such as failing to yield, traveling too fast for conditions, or inattention, the surviving victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Families of those killed in such collisions may also bring wrongful death claims when another party’s unlawful or careless actions lead to the loss of life.
My deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim who lost their life, and my thoughts are with the injured as they fight to recover from their injuries.
