New Year’s Day Collision in Rancho Mirage Kills Cyclist John Henebry, Jr.

Rancho Mirage, CA (January 1, 2025) – John Henebry, Jr., 76, a world-renowned photographer, tragically lost his life on New Year’s Day after being struck by a vehicle while bicycling near Highway 111 and Frank Sinatra Drive in Rancho Mirage.

Accident Details: The incident was reported just after 10:00 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies and paramedics attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but sadly, Henebry succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle’s driver stopped and cooperated with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. In cases involving bicyclist fatalities, investigators will likely assess several factors, including whether the driver was impaired, distracted, or otherwise negligent. Road conditions, signage, and visibility at the time of the collision will also be examined to determine if other factors contributed to the tragedy.

If driver negligence is identified as causing the accident, Henebry’s family may pursue a wrongful death claim. Wrongful death lawsuits can help hold negligent parties accountable for their actions and provide families with compensation for emotional, financial, and other losses stemming from their loved one’s death.

My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of John Henebry, Jr. during this difficult time.
