Multiple Vehicle Hit-and-Run Kills Emishia Shakira Hodges in Tulare

Tulare, CA (January 19, 2025) – A devastating hit-and-run accident in Tulare on Sunday night claimed the life of 32-year-old Emishia Shakira Hodges.

Accident Details: The incident occurred around 8:15 PM at the intersection of Cross Avenue and Mooney Boulevard, near Prosperity Avenue. According to the Tulare Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a body in the roadway. Upon arrival, they found Hodges suffering from major injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

While 26-year-old Dominick Nunez of Visalia initially fled the scene, he later returned and confessed to hitting Hodges, explaining that he left because he was afraid. He was arrested for felony hit-and-run. Police indicate that alcohol was not a factor in the incident.

Investigation: Investigators believe that Hodges was likely struck by additional vehicles that also left the scene. The Tulare Police Department urges anyone with information about these other drivers to come forward.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. This heartbreaking incident underscores the legal and moral imperative to remain at the scene of an accident. Leaving the scene of an accident can have severe consequences.

California law imposes harsh penalties for hit-and-run accidents, particularly those resulting in death or serious injury. Drivers are legally obligated to stop and aid anyone injured in an accident. This aid includes providing assistance, calling for medical help, and remaining at the scene until authorities arrive.

Potential Wrongful Death Claims: Hodges’s family may have grounds to file wrongful death lawsuits against all hit-and-run drivers involved in this tragic incident. With this claim, her family may be able to recover compensation for their loss, including funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional distress.

While Nunez confessed to striking Hodges, this confession does not absolve the other drivers who failed to stop. The investigation will likely focus on determining the actions of all drivers involved, including speed, visibility, and any other factors that may have contributed to the accident.

I offer my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Emishia Shakira Hodges during this heartbreaking time.
