Jefferson Township, PA (March 17, 2025) – A school bus carrying members of the Greater Scranton Black Diamonds Pipe Band crashed into a parked semi-truck at the Mount Cobb exit of Interstate 84, injuring multiple passengers. The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near a travel plaza at 1174 Mount Cobb Road.
Incident Details: According to authorities, the bus was traveling westbound on I-84 when it lost control on an off-ramp, veered through a grassy area near a Sunoco station, and collided with the parked semi-truck. The bus driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and appeared to suffer serious injuries. Of the 23 people onboard, 15 to 16 were transported to area hospitals for treatment. While some victims sustained minor injuries, others required further medical attention. The condition of the semi-truck driver remains unclear.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Accidents involving commercial vehicles and passenger buses can present complex liability issues. Investigators will likely examine whether speed, mechanical failure, or road conditions contributed to the bus losing control. Additionally, they may assess whether proper precautions were in place at the travel plaza where the semi-truck was parked. If negligence played a role, injured victims may have grounds for personal injury claims against responsible parties, including the bus company, maintenance providers, or other entities involved.
My thoughts are with those injured in this frightening accident.
