Muhammad Saddique Fatally Struck by SacRT Bus in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA (September 9, 2024) – On Monday morning, September 9, 2024, a tragic accident occurred in Sacramento’s Natomas Park neighborhood, leaving 64-year-old Muhammad Saddique dead after being struck by a Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) vehicle.

Accident Details: The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Club Center Drive near Banfield Drive. The Sacramento County Coroner identified Saddique, a Sacramento resident, the following day. Sacramento Police arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. The driver of the vehicle, which operates as part of the SacRT SmaRT Ride on-demand transit service, remained on site and cooperated with the investigation.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. A thorough investigation is essential to determine the cause of Muhammad Saddique’s tragic death. Authorities must examine whether mechanical failure in the SacRT bus played a role and assess the driver’s actions at the time of the accident. Investigating potential defects in the bus’s brakes or steering is crucial.

Additionally, with another fatal crash occurring nearby just months ago, the city’s knowledge of dangerous conditions in the area comes into question. If the city failed to implement necessary safety measures, such as improved signage or traffic controls, they may have breached their duty to keep the area safe.

If negligence is found—whether by SacRT, the driver, or the city—Saddique’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for their loss.

I extend my deepest condolences to Muhammad Saddique’s family and friends. I hope that the ongoing investigation will provide clarity.
