Huntington Beach, CA (December 20, 2024) – On the evening of Thursday, December 19, 2024, 28-year-old Justin Keith-Louis Ketteringham tragically lost his life in a motorcycle collision at Springdale Street and Warner Avenue in Huntington Beach.
Accident Details: According to local authorities, Ketteringham was traveling southbound on Springdale Street when a northbound Lexus GX460 SUV, driven by an unidentified individual, turned left into a business complex at the intersection. This maneuver caused the collision with Ketteringham’s motorcycle. The impact caused Ketteringham to lose control of his bike, striking a Lexus CT200h hatchback just exiting a driveway at 17101 Springdale Street.
Police arrested the 25-year-old woman driving the Lexus CT200h on suspicion of driving under the influence. Her identity has not been publicly disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that this tragic case raises several important legal questions about liability and accountability:
- DUI and Negligence: Driving under the influence is a serious offense that endangers others on the road. In California, impaired drivers face both criminal charges and civil liability if their actions cause harm or death.
- Failure to Yield: The driver of the Lexus GX460 may also bear liability for the collision if it is determined that their turn across oncoming traffic was unsafe. Left turns require yielding the right of way to oncoming vehicles, including motorcycles.
Ketteringham’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim against any party found negligent in this accident. This claim could cover damages such as funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering caused by the loss of a loved one.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Justin Keith-Louis Ketteringham during this difficult time.
