Monroe County, MI (June 24, 2025) – One driver is dead following a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck and two Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) vehicles along southbound I-75, according to Michigan State Police.
Incident Details: The crash occurred Tuesday morning in the right lane of I-75 near Otter Creek Road. Officials said MDOT crews were conducting scheduled road work with flashing directional arrow boards when a semi-truck failed to stop and slammed into both vehicles. One of the drivers involved was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Michigan State Police are leading the investigation. Authorities will review the semi-truck’s black-box data, examine braking patterns, and evaluate whether distracted or fatigued driving contributed. In work zone crashes, state and federal regulations around commercial driver safety, signage visibility, and lane closures often factor into legal liability. MDOT workers and contractors may also be entitled to workers’ compensation and additional civil remedies.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the driver who lost their life.
