Monica Ibarra Killed in San Jose Hit-and-Run Involving Pickup Truck

San Jose, California (September 8, 2025) — A woman identified as 52-year-old Monica Ibarra of San Francisco was struck and killed Monday morning while riding an electric scooter in San Jose.

Incident Details: The collision was reported shortly after 8 a.m. at Santa Clara and Cahill Streets, just south of the SAP Center. Investigators determined Ibarra was traveling north in the crosswalk when an eastbound 2021 black Ram pickup truck struck her. She was transported to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The male driver fled the scene; officers later located the unoccupied, stolen truck.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: San Jose police say the driver remains at large and has not been identified. Detectives are investigating the hit-and-run and ask anyone with information to contact the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit. In fatal hit-and-run cases, criminal charges can include vehicular manslaughter and fleeing the scene of a collision. The family of Monica Ibarra may also consider a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for funeral costs, lost support, and emotional suffering.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Monica Ibarra during this heartbreaking time.
