Temecula, CA (August 29, 2025) – Four people were tragically killed Saturday night in a violent two-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 near Temecula, devastating the local community and especially those connected to the Southern California youth soccer scene.
Accident Details:
The crash occurred around 9:33 p.m. on August 29, when a BMW traveling northbound at high speed reportedly crossed the center median and collided head-on with a southbound Nissan Sentra. Both vehicles erupted in flames following the impact.
The victims included Mina Sabet, 14, and Yostena Sabet, 22, both of Downey; Jacob Labib, 13, of La Palma; and Nicholas Callans, 35, of Wildomar, who was driving the Nissan. All four were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals survived the crash but were hospitalized with critical injuries.
Mina and Jacob were members of the SoCal Reds youth soccer club and had spent the day participating in a tournament. Friends and family describe them as deeply bonded, both on and off the field. The community has been left reeling by the loss of two young athletes, a college student, and a father of two.
Investigation and Legal Considerations:
Authorities believe the crash may have been the result of an illegal street race. The driver of the BMW, identified as Girgis Alber, was seriously injured and is expected to face multiple felony charges, including vehicular manslaughter, child endangerment, and participating in a speed contest.
The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate, and criminal charges will be finalized once additional evidence is reviewed. Investigators are analyzing witness statements, traffic camera footage, and vehicle data to determine the full sequence of events.
In addition to criminal proceedings, civil claims for wrongful death and personal injury may also arise. Families affected by fatal traffic collisions often pursue civil compensation for funeral expenses, emotional distress, lost future earnings, and other damages. In cases involving gross negligence or illegal activity, punitive damages may also be considered.
The tragedy has prompted renewed calls for traffic safety enforcement and community support for the surviving families. A growing memorial at the crash site reflects the widespread heartbreak caused by the senseless loss of young lives.
I extend my deepest condolences to the families, teammates, and friends of Mina Sabet, Jacob Labib, Yostena Sabet, and Nicholas Callans, and send hopes for healing and justice for all affected.
