Michelle Denise Johnson Killed in Mother’s Day Crash Involving Semi-Truck on U.S. 231

Brundidge, AL (May 12, 2025) — A 53-year-old woman from Montgomery was killed in a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck Sunday afternoon on U.S. Highway 231 near Brundidge, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Incident Details: The collision occurred on May 11 near the 62-mile marker when Michelle Denise Johnson, driving a 2001 Honda Accord, struck the trailer of a 2022 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by a man from Southaven, Mississippi. Following the initial impact, Johnson’s vehicle collided with a 2018 Toyota Tacoma. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Tacoma, a 57-year-old woman from Meridianville, was injured and transported to Southeast Health for treatment. No additional injuries were reported.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Alabama State Troopers are investigating the sequence of events to determine what caused Johnson to crash into the semi-truck. Authorities will review whether visibility, speed, lane changes, or other factors played a role in the fatal collision. Investigators also evaluate compliance with federal safety regulations in commercial truck cases.

Depending on the findings, Johnson’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, while the injured driver of the Toyota Tacoma may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Michelle Denise Johnson and wish the injured driver a full recovery.
