Michael Harrington Killed in Motorcycle Crash with FedEx Semi-Truck in Elkhart

ELKHART, IN (July 2, 2025) – A 19-year-old motorcyclist, Michael Harrington, died Tuesday afternoon in a collision with a FedEx semi-truck in Elkhart, according to local police.

Accident Details: The crash occurred just before 12:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of Bristol Street. Authorities say Harrington was riding a motorcycle when he collided with a FedEx semi-truck that was pulling out of a parking lot.

The impact threw Harrington from his motorcycle. Despite wearing a helmet, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 48-year-old FedEx truck driver was not injured. Police confirmed the driver is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Bristol Street was temporarily closed from Lilac Street to Independence Street while officials responded to the crash.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Elkhart Police Department is investigating the incident. In crashes involving motorcycles and commercial trucks, investigators typically assess visibility, right of way, and whether the truck driver executed a safe maneuver when entering traffic. Commercial drivers are required to exercise heightened caution when pulling into roadways, especially when motorcycles are nearby due to their smaller size and limited visibility.

Motorcycle accidents involving large trucks often result in serious or fatal injuries, leaving families to cope with both emotional loss and financial challenges. Legal claims may be available if driver negligence or improper operation contributed to the crash.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Michael Harrington.
