Ventura County, CA (March 31, 2025) – One person was killed Monday afternoon when a Metrolink train collided with a vehicle near Las Posas Road and Fifth Street, between Camarillo and Oxnard, halting train service and prompting an emergency response.
Incident Details: The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. when the southbound Ventura County Line 118 Metrolink train struck a vehicle on the tracks. The vehicle’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Five train passengers and three crew members were uninjured. Train service was temporarily suspended, and alternate transportation was arranged for affected passengers.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities have not yet released information on what led to the collision. Investigators will likely examine whether the vehicle was stalled on the tracks, whether crossing signals were functioning properly, and whether the driver attempted to beat the train. In cases where a fatality occurs at a railroad crossing, legal liability can vary depending on whether driver negligence, equipment failure, or inadequate warning systems were involved. The victim’s family may consider a wrongful death claim depending on the findings of the investigation.
