MAYVILLE, Wis. (August 7, 2025) — A 19-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by the trailer of a semi-truck in Mayville, according to local police.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 2:10 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and Bridge Street. Authorities say the bicyclist was traveling southbound on North Main Street when the trailer of a semi-truck, also heading southbound, struck her while moving through the intersection. The woman was airlifted by Flight for Life to Aurora Summit Hospital for emergency treatment.
The semi-truck driver, a 65-year-old man from Michigan, left the scene. A witness followed the truck out of town and provided critical information to law enforcement, leading officers to locate the vehicle in the Village of Hustisford. According to police, initial interviews suggest the driver was unaware of the collision.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation is ongoing. Investigators will likely examine factors such as the truck’s blind spots, the driver’s line of sight, speed at the time of the crash, and whether any violations of Wisconsin traffic laws occurred. When sharing the road with vulnerable users like bicyclists, key questions arise regarding a driver’s awareness, responsibility, and the sufficiency of precautions taken.
Pending the investigation’s findings, the injured bicyclist or her family may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
I sincerely hope for the victim’s recovery during this difficult time.
