Chico, CA (August 29, 2024) – On August 29, 2024, 18-year-old Masie Boland, a freshman at Chico State from Guerneville, was involved in a serious rollover accident.
Accident Details: The accident occurred on Upper Park Road near Wildwood Avenue in Chico. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Nathaniel James Callahan, has been arrested and charged with felony DUI.
Boland was a passenger in the vehicle. The accident paralyzed her from the ribs down. She sustained significant injuries, including fractures to her upper back, C5 and C6 vertebrae. Despite being able to move her arms, she struggles with finger movement and faces a challenging road to recovery. Boland is currently receiving treatment at Enloe Hospital.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that it’s crucial to investigate various factors to determine liability, including:
- Driver’s Impairment: The DUI charge against Callahan indicates a likely impairment due to alcohol or drugs. Investigating the circumstances of his arrest, including blood alcohol levels and whether he was driving recklessly, will be vital in assessing liability.
- Vehicle Maintenance and Safety: It is important to examine the condition of the vehicle and whether any mechanical failures contributed to the rollover. This can involve investigating the vehicle’s maintenance history and any safety recalls.
- Road Conditions: Analyzing whether road conditions, such as road design, signage, or weather, contributed to the accident can provide further insights into its causes.
- Passenger Safety Measures: Investigating whether Boland and other passengers were wearing seatbelts or using proper restraints can impact the evaluation of liability.
Boland might be able to pursue a personal injury claim and secure the financial support needed for her extensive medical care and long-term rehabilitation.
My sincerest thoughts are with Masie Boland and her family during this incredibly difficult time. The journey ahead will be challenging, and I extend my heartfelt wishes for her recovery.
