McCormick County, SC (April 4, 2025) – A 47-year-old man from Augusta was killed in a head-on crash with an 18-wheeler early Thursday morning in McCormick County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: The collision occurred just after 6:00 a.m. on April 3 along Highway 28. Authorities say Marvin Garrett Kent was driving a 1997 Honda sedan northbound when his vehicle collided head-on with a southbound 18-wheeler. Kent was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the crash, a large emergency response was launched. Units from McCormick County EMS, Bethia Volunteer Fire Department, Sharon and Calhoun Falls Fire Departments, Abbeville County Department of Public Safety, and Edgewood Fire Rescue responded. Crews carried out vehicle extrication, secured the crash site, and assisted with the ongoing investigation.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol has not yet released details on what may have caused the crash, but the investigation remains active.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities will examine various factors to determine liability and contributing causes, including driver behavior, potential impairment, vehicle malfunctions, and roadway conditions.
