Yuma, AZ (April 10, 2025) – A 61-year-old man was killed Thursday afternoon after being pinned by a backing semi-truck at a loading dock in Yuma, according to the Yuma Police Department (YPD).
Incident Details: The incident occurred around 12:34 p.m. on April 10 at Priority Cooling Mann Pack, a facility located in Yuma. Police say a 21-year-old man was operating a semi-truck in reverse, attempting to park the vehicle, when the truck pinned the older man who had been assisting by spotting the vehicle’s movement.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Onvida Health, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The Yuma Police Department has not released the names of either the victim or the driver and has not stated whether any charges are being considered.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: YPD continues to investigate. Investigators will likely examine whether adequate precautions were taken, including the use of visibility aids, clear hand signals, and whether the backing driver had full awareness of the spotter’s position.
Depending on the findings, the victim’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims may help cover funeral costs, loss of income, and other associated damages.
As the investigation continues, our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the victim.
