Delaware County, Ohio (April 11, 2026) — Three people were killed Saturday evening in a nine-vehicle chain-reaction crash in a construction zone on Interstate 71 in Delaware County, according to authorities.
One of the victims was identified as Lynnea Soposki, a veterinarian at Muirfield Animal Hospital. Authorities said Soposki’s husband and their 1-year-old child were also killed, but their names had not been publicly released.
The crash happened at about 6:27 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-71 near the U.S. Route 36 interchange.
Incident Details: According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2006 Freightliner semi-truck was traveling northbound when it failed to stop for a line of traffic backed up in a construction zone. Investigators said the semi slammed into the rear of several stopped vehicles, triggering a chain reaction involving nine vehicles in total. The three people who died were riding in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and were all residents of Ashley, Ohio.
Authorities said three other people sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The semi driver, Modou F. Ngom, 50, of Columbus, was taken into custody after the crash. He was charged with vehicular homicide, and a later report said he was being held on a $500,000 bond.
Investigation: In a crash like this, investigators will likely focus on why the semi-truck failed to stop for backed-up traffic in the construction zone and whether speed, attention, braking distance, or some other factor caused the driver to plow into the line of vehicles. In major chain-reaction crashes, reconstruction becomes especially important because it can help establish the sequence of impacts, the force of the initial strike, and whether the deaths and injuries were caused by a single catastrophic collision or a sequence of secondary impacts.
Investigators might examine the construction-zone layout, traffic warnings, sight distance, vehicle data, and footage from dashcams or traffic cameras. Since a commercial truck hit stopped traffic, the truck driver’s actions just before the crash will probably be key in both the criminal investigation and civil claims. This type of collision requires a thorough investigation to determine what happened and why.
Legal Considerations: Fatal construction-zone crashes involving a semi-truck often present strong grounds for civil claims, especially where investigators allege the commercial vehicle failed to stop for traffic ahead. In a commercial trucking case, a civil investigation may also examine the trucking operation, driver conduct, and any additional safety issues that may have contributed to the crash. For families facing a loss this devastating, the civil side can be just as important as the criminal case in getting answers and accountability.
Pending the investigation’s findings, the families of Lynnea Soposki, her husband, and their child may have valid opportunities to pursue wrongful death claims. These claims could provide compensation for funeral and burial expenses, as well as for loss of financial support, love, care, and guidance.
My heartfelt sympathies are with the loved ones and family of Lynnea Soposki, as well as with her husband’s and child’s family. Wishing comfort and peace to all during this difficult time.
