Multi-Vehicle Collision Near Del Rio Claims Life of Infant and Three Others

Del Rio, CA (April 9, 2024) – A tragic accident on McHenry Avenue in Stanislaus County resulted in four fatalities, including an infant, after a four-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon.

Incident Overview: A Mitsubishi sedan, driven by 19-year-old Angeles Escoto with 23-year-old Francis Catano as a passenger, crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Toyota SUV. The SUV was driven by 60-year-old Patricia Lopez, who had 20-month-old Clara Howells onboard. Both people in the Mitsubishi were declared dead at the scene. Despite surviving the initial accident, the woman and child in the SUV succumbed to their injuries after being transported to area hospitals.

Investigation and Legal Implications: The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, including potential influences like drugs or alcohol. Depending on the results of the investigation, the family of Lopez and Howells may choose to pursue a wrongful death claim for their loss. This could help with damages such as funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and more.

This is an absolutely devastating accident. I offer the family and friends of all of the victims involved my deepest condolences. I hope that they receive the support they need during this difficult time.
