Montgomery County, MO (May 30, 2025) — A 63-year-old man from Las Vegas was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when a semi-truck failed to slow for traffic and rear-ended his motorcycle on Interstate 70, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: The collision occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. in Montgomery County. A 59-year-old man from Odin, Illinois, was driving a 2005 Freightliner eastbound on I-70 when traffic began to slow near the scene of an emergency. Authorities say the semi-truck did not reduce speed in time and struck the back of a 2021 Harley Davidson Roadking motorcycle.
The force of the crash threw the motorcyclist from his bike, causing serious injuries. Emergency medical services transported the man to a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation continues, and authorities will thoroughly review dashcam footage, electronic logging device data, and witness statements. They will also examine whether the commercial driver was distracted, fatigued, or simply following too closely for the conditions.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the motorcyclist may be entitled to recover damages through a personal injury claim to help with medical bills, lost wages, and emotional distress.
