Los Angeles, CA (February 1, 2025) – A tragic accident on the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles claimed the life of Larry Lopez, 25, early Saturday morning.
Accident Details: The incident occurred around 6:34 a.m. on the southbound lanes near First Street. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Lopez was struck by a black Honda Civic. Authorities believe he may have also been hit by multiple other vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force traumatic injuries. The driver of the Honda Civic, a 47-year-old man, was transported to a hospital in fair condition. A 23-year-old man, possibly a passenger, declined medical transport.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.
- Driver Responsibility: Investigators will assess whether the Honda driver was driving at a safe speed, paying attention to road conditions, or otherwise negligent.
- Why the Pedestrian Was on the Freeway: Investigators will explore the circumstances that led Lopez to be on the freeway. Pedestrian presence on high-speed roadways is highly hazardous, and determining why Lopez was there could provide important context for liability assessments.
- Multiple Vehicle Involvement: Reports indicate that other vehicles may have also struck Lopez. Investigators will attempt to identify these vehicles and their drivers. Liability may be shared among multiple parties if additional drivers contributed to the fatal injuries.
- Road Conditions: Investigators will also evaluate road conditions at the time of the crash, including visibility, signage, and traffic patterns. If roadway deficiencies contributed to the collision, the government entity responsible for maintaining the freeway may face liability.
Lopez’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit if negligence on the part of the Honda driver or other motorists is established. Depending on the evidence, liability may extend to multiple parties. Compensation from such a claim could cover funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional pain.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Larry Lopez. I hope the investigation provides clarity and closure for those affected.
