Fiery Semi-Truck Accident Injures Two on I-94 in LaPorte County

LaPorte County, IN (August 27, 2025) – Two people were injured Wednesday night in a fiery semi-truck crash that shut down portions of Interstate 94 in northwestern Indiana.

Accident Details: According to Indiana State Police, the crash happened around 10:44 p.m. near the 33.8-mile marker, just west of the Michigan City exit in LaPorte County. A semi-truck carrying fruit struck a median wall and caught fire. A second semi-truck was also involved in the collision. Both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-94 were closed for several hours, with traffic diverted onto State Road 49 and U.S. 421.

Emergency responders confirmed that two people—a driver and a passenger—were injured in the crash. They were transported for medical care, though their current conditions remain unknown.

Investigation: Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. The review will focus on the operation of the semi-truck that struck the median wall, roadway conditions, and traffic patterns at the time of the crash.

I extend my sympathy to those injured in this truck accident and wish them a full recovery.
