Kylee Mitchell Identified as Pedestrian Killed in Collision Near Hawthorne

Athens, CA (April 9, 2025) – A 30-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a vehicle over the weekend in an unincorporated area near Hawthorne has been identified as Kylee Mitchell, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Incident Details: The collision occurred around 4:32 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the intersection of 120th Street and Western Avenue in the Athens neighborhood. California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a pedestrian down in the roadway and discovered Mitchell at the scene. She was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

Authorities have not released further details about the vehicle involved or whether the driver remained at the scene. As the California Highway Patrol continues its investigation, additional updates are expected.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation. CHP will review whether visibility, driver distraction, speed, or pedestrian location in the roadway contributed to the fatal collision. If the driver fled the scene or was found to have acted negligently, criminal charges such as vehicular manslaughter or felony hit-and-run may apply.

If the driver is located and depending on the outcome of the investigation, Mitchell’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, which could help cover funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering.
