North County, CA (May 30, 2025) — Two people have died in unrelated crashes in North San Diego County: 20-year-old Kealan Hannigan of Escondido and 82-year-old Patricia Roberts of Carlsbad, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Incident Details: The first crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at the intersection of North Centre City Parkway and North Nutmeg Street in Escondido. Hannigan was riding a motorcycle when he collided with an SUV. First responders transported him to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
In a separate incident, Roberts was injured on May 16 in a collision with a van at El Camino Real and Jackspar Drive in Carlsbad. She was hospitalized at Palomar Medical Center and died eight days later from complications related to multiple rib and pelvic fractures.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Both crashes remain under investigation. Investigators will likely examine right-of-way, traffic signal timing, and potential speed factors to determine how the collisions occurred.
Pending the findings of the investigation, the Roberts and Hannigan families may pursue a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for medical expenses, loss of companionship, and funeral costs.
My condolences go out to the loved ones of Kealan Hannigan and Patricia Roberts.
