Justyn Jack Jenkins Killed in Crash with Tractor-Trailer in North Carolina

Davidson, NC (April 5, 2025) – A 26-year-old man from Mooresville was killed in a crash early Tuesday morning on Interstate 77 southbound near the Iredell-Mecklenburg County line, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Incident Overview: The collision occurred around 3 a.m. on April 8 between Langtree Road and Griffith Street. Troopers say Justyn Jack Jenkins was driving a 2021 Hyundai Kona that became disabled and was sitting sideways in the road with no lights on, likely due to a previous crash.

A 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling southbound could not avoid the stationary Hyundai and struck the vehicle. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured, and authorities confirmed that speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.

Two of the three southbound lanes were closed for approximately three hours during the investigation and cleanup but reopened.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: While no charges are expected, investigators will likely continue reviewing whether lighting conditions, lack of vehicle lighting, or road layout contributed to the fatal outcome.

Depending on the investigation’s outcome, Jenkins’ family might pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver or the trucking company. The claim compensates the family for funeral costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

I extend my condolences to the family and friends of Justyn Jack Jenkins as they grieve this loss.
