Rancho Cordova, CA (April 1, 2025) – Julie Denise Koenig, 63, of Mather, was tragically killed Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle while walking near a busy intersection in Rancho Cordova.
Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred just after 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of Mather Field Road and International Drive, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. Authorities confirmed that Koenig was pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was closed in both directions for a period of time following the collision. Deputies with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported that the driver involved remained at the scene and no signs of criminal activity were immediately suspected.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash. In pedestrian collisions, investigators often evaluate vehicle speed, visibility, crosswalk usage, and driver attentiveness. Even in cases where no criminal charges are filed, civil liability may still be a consideration, particularly if the driver was distracted or failed to yield the right of way. Koenig’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim depending on the findings.
