Central Lubbock, TX (March 28, 2025) – A bicyclist sustained serious injuries following a collision with a box truck on Wednesday morning in Central Lubbock. The Lubbock Police Department has identified the injured cyclist as 37-year-old Joshua Freed.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 8:02 a.m. in the 700 block of 34th Street. Both the cyclist and the box truck, operated by 70-year-old Gilbert Harper, were traveling westbound when the truck reportedly attempted to change lanes and struck the bicycle. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported Freed to University Medical Center with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police have not yet announced whether any citations or charges will be filed, and the investigation remains active.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: As the investigation proceeds, authorities will likely review several contributing factors, including whether the truck driver checked for cyclists before changing lanes and whether distraction, fatigue, or failure to yield played a role.
If evidence of driver negligence emerges, Mr. Freed may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim. Such a claim could seek compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost income, and pain and suffering.
Our thoughts are with Mr. Freed and his loved ones during this difficult time. We wish him strength and a full recovery.
