Lake Elsinore, CA (February 18, 2025) – Josh Nichols, 44, was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking home with his dog in Lake Elsinore.
Accident Details: The accident occurred on Riverside Drive shortly before 1 a.m. Mr. Nichols was found on the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe he was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. Authorities suspect the vehicle is dark-colored and likely has front-end damage. Although the circumstances of the crash remain unclear, Mr. Nichols’s friends believe he may have been trying to retrieve his dog, Woodson, who possibly broke free from his leash before the accident. Woodson remains missing.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Law enforcement will conduct an intensive investigation to determine what happened and try to locate the driver. Authorities will use a combination of evidence collection, witness interviews, and public assistance to gather leads.
Investigators should examine any vehicle debris and paint chips left at the scene to identify the make and model of the suspect vehicle. They believe the vehicle likely has front-end damage, which could help narrow down potential suspects. Skid marks and impact patterns are also being examined to determine the speed and trajectory of the vehicle at the time of the collision. Witness interviews and surveillance footage will also provide critical information to recreate the accident.
If negligence is identified to have caused death in a pedestrian crash, the victim’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim.
I offer my sincerest condolences to Josh Nichols’s family and friends during this heartbreaking time. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Nichols family with final expenses. Please contribute if you can.
