Sports Car Crash into Pool Claims Two Lives in Nice

Nice, CA (March 10, 2024) – A devastating accident occurred late Sunday in Lake County, resulting in the deaths of two men after their sports car crashed into a backyard swimming pool. The incident took place in the 7000 block of Tehama Street in Nice, with California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials responding to the scene.

Details of the Incident: Nickolas Wade Dilley, 39, from Oklahoma, was driving a Subaru WRX north on Butte Street around 10:20 p.m. when the vehicle went over an embankment, leading into a property on Tehama Street and ultimately overturning in a private swimming pool measuring approximately 20 feet by 10 feet. Dilley and his passenger, Joseph Timothy Torres, 31, a resident of Nice, were found deceased in the submerged vehicle. According to CHP Officer Michael Amader, neither man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Investigation and Suspected Factors: Authorities suspect that alcohol played a role in this tragic event. The Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims, and autopsies are expected to be conducted, though the process could take up to 90 days. The CHP-Clear Lake office is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Legal Implications: This incident highlights the critical importance of road safety measures, including the use of seatbelts and the dangers of driving under the influence. Given the circumstances, the family of Joseph Timothy Torres may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such a claim could seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, loss of future earnings, and the loss of love and companionship. Pursuing a wrongful death claim can be a complex process, requiring the guidance of an experienced attorney to navigate the legal system and advocate for the family’s rights.

My thoughts are with the families and friends of Nickolas Wade Dilley and Joseph Timothy Torres during this incredibly difficult time. I hope that they receive the support they need as they navigate the aftermath of this horrible crash. The family of Joseph has setup a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses. Please contribute anything you can.
