Grand Ronde, OR (June 15, 2025) — A 50-year-old man from Grand Ronde, identified as Joseph Nicholas Grammer, died Sunday evening in a collision with a semi-truck on Highway 18, according to the Oregon State Police.
Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred around 7:07 p.m. near Grand Ronde. Police say a 19-year-old driver from Salem was operating an eastbound Freightliner semi when he attempted to turn left into a gravel lot. During the turn, the truck crossed the path of Grammer, who was riding a westbound Kawasaki ZX-18 motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the semi, and Grammer was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not injured. The highway was closed for roughly three hours while police conducted an on-scene investigation.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The preliminary report suggests the semi-truck driver may have failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making the left turn. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities will likely review visibility, speed, reaction times, and driver conduct.
Depending on the investigation’s findings, Grammer’s surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation could address funeral costs, loss of companionship, and other damages.
My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Mr. Grammer during this time.
