Long Beach, CA (June 3, 2025) — A 27-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning after being struck by a van while standing outside a vehicle on the 710 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: The crash occurred on the northbound side of the 710 Freeway near Willow Street. CHP officers responded to reports of a man walking near a vehicle pulled over in the center divider. At some point after pulling over, the man, identified as Jorge Ramirez, was struck by a white minivan. Emergency responders transported Ramirez to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities believe Ramirez may have been involved in a separate incident or breakdown just prior to being hit. The van’s driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities continue investigating and consider if the speed of the oncoming vehicle, lighting conditions, road conditions, vehicle malfunctions, and visibility contributed to the crash.
Depending on the findings of the investigation, Ramirez’s family could potentially pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims may address costs such as medical care, funeral expenses, and financial and emotional support loss.
My condolences go out to Jorge Ramirez’s family and friends.
