Jonathon Tucker Dead, One Injured After Crash on Highway 62

Hot Springs, CA (May 16, 2024) – An early morning crash on Highway 62 resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man and injuries to another driver, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Incident Overview: The collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 62 and North Indian Canyon Drive. A Hyundai making a left turn from westbound Highway 62 onto North Indian Canyon Drive was struck by a Dodge traveling eastbound on the same highway. After the initial impact, the Dodge continued northeast, ultimately colliding with a streetlight on the northeast corner of the intersection. The driver of the Dodge, identified as Jonathon Tucker from Twentynine Palms, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hyundai’s driver, a man from Yucca Valley, suffered minor injuries and was treated accordingly.

Investigation and Legal Implications: The CHP has reported that the crash is under investigation. The intersection where the incident occurred is equipped with a four-way stop and stoplights. Authorities have indicated that alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in this tragic event. The lack of details surrounding the crash make it difficult to determine who is at fault. It’s possible that the driver in the Hyundai made a turn at an unsafe time. However, other factors, like the speed of the Dodge, also need to be examined. In the first case, it’s likely that the family of the deceased could pursue a wrongful death claim for their loss.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jonathon Tucker during this difficult time, and hope for a speedy recovery for the injured driver.
