Jesus Francisco Borja Identified in Fatal Pedestrian February Crash in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (April 2, 2025) — Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed in a February collision on Union Avenue as 36-year-old Jesus Francisco Borja, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

Incident Details: The fatal incident occurred around 10:51 p.m. on February 25, in the 900 block of Union Avenue near East 9th Street. Bakersfield Police say Borja was walking eastbound across Union Avenue when a northbound Honda sedan struck him.

Emergency personnel responded quickly but pronounced Borja dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. The driver involved remained at the location and fully cooperated with the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary findings from Bakersfield Police indicate that neither speed nor driver impairment appeared to be contributing factors in the crash. No additional injuries were reported.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is encouraged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Although early findings suggest the driver was not impaired or speeding, the investigation into pedestrian right-of-way and roadway conditions may continue to determine whether negligence played a role.

In fatal pedestrian accidents, families of the deceased may still explore potential wrongful death claims, especially if the crossing was within a poorly lit area or lacked appropriate pedestrian signage or signals.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Jesus Francisco Borja.
