Pomona, California (April 2, 2026) — A pregnant woman and her boyfriend were killed Wednesday night in Pomona when a suspect fleeing from police crashed into their vehicle, according to authorities and family members.
The victims were identified as 25-year-old Jennifer Loera-Zarco and 26-year-old Marc Trejo Saldivar. Family members said Jennifer was eight and a half months pregnant, and the couple’s unborn baby boy was also lost in the crash.
The collision happened just after 9:30 p.m. at Garey Avenue and County Road near the 60 Freeway.
Incident Details: According to Pomona police, officers had responded earlier that night to a domestic violence call near East 10th Street and South Elm Street. While officers were speaking with one of the people involved, police said 31-year-old Marshall Judson returned to the scene, driving recklessly and intentionally ramming a parked patrol car. Authorities said that act escalated the incident into a felony pursuit.
Police stated that Judson then fled, prompting a brief pursuit through Pomona that concluded when he collided with a Ford Fusion at Garey Avenue and County Road. Marc Trejo Saldivar was driving the Ford, with Jennifer Loera-Zarco as the passenger. Both individuals were declared dead at the scene.
Police found a firearm and parts in Judson’s vehicle. He did not have a valid license. He was charged with vehicular manslaughter, assault on a peace officer, DUI, driving without a license, felony evasion, and firearm offenses.
Family members said Jennifer and Marc were preparing for their baby boy, due on April 20. They had celebrated Jennifer’s birthday, shopped for final items, and were getting a home ready in Santa Ana before the birth.
Investigation: In such cases, investigators will likely examine the fleeing vehicle’s speed, the pursuit’s route and duration, the suspect’s alleged impairment, and the detailed sequence of events leading up to the crash. When a pursuit results in a deadly intersection collision, crash reconstruction is particularly crucial, as it can determine the suspect’s traveling speed, whether evasive maneuvers were possible, and the nature of the impact.
Investigators may review dashcam, bodycam, surveillance footage, witness statements, and vehicle damage. Since police said the incident started with a domestic violence response and escalated after the suspect rammed a patrol car, the pursuit timeline and decision-making are also key issues.
These cases typically involve criminal scrutiny of fleeing drivers and broader questions about how the deadly chain of events unfolded, requiring a full account of what happened and why.
Legal Considerations: Fatal crashes caused by a fleeing suspect often present strong grounds for civil claims, especially when the conduct allegedly involves reckless evasion, driving under the influence, and a violent collision with an innocent vehicle. If the facts are confirmed, the circumstances described here may support a finding of extreme recklessness.
The families of Jennifer Loera-Zarco and Marc Trejo Saldivar may have grounds to pursue wrongful death claims, which could cover funeral costs, financial loss, and emotional damages. With a reported pregnancy and the baby nearly born, the losses are significant.
A civil case may also help uncover details that are not always clear in the first public reports. While the criminal prosecution will move on its own track, the civil side can be just as important for families seeking accountability, answers, and financial justice after a preventable tragedy.
My deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Jennifer Loera-Zarco and Marc Trejo Saldivar.
