Jeni Erhardt, 50, Killed in Collision With Semi-Truck in Alaska

Wasilla, Alaska  (April 19, 2026) — A 50-year-old Wasilla woman was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck at the Parks Highway-Glenn Highway interchange, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Officials identified the deceased as Jeni Erhardt of Wasilla. Troopers said she was driving a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek when it was struck on the driver’s side by a semi-truck pulling a side-dump trailer. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The crash was reported at 11:58 a.m. at the Parks Highway-Glenn Highway interchange. Alaska State Troopers also said next-of-kin notifications were completed and that a dog in Erhardt’s vehicle was uninjured and turned over to Mat-Su Borough Animal Control.

Incident Details: According to Alaska State Troopers, multiple 911 callers reported the crash just before noon. Troopers and EMS responded to the scene and found that Erhardt’s Subaru had been hit on the driver’s side by the semi and side-dump trailer. Public reporting has not yet explained the direction of travel of the semi, who had the right-of-way, or what movement caused the truck to hit the side of the Subaru.

Investigation: In a side-impact crash at a highway interchange, the legal and factual focus is often very different from a rear-end or head-on case. The main questions here will likely center on merge paths, turning movements, signal or yield control, and whether either vehicle entered the interchange area without enough time or space to do so safely. A driver ’s-side impact in particular often raises questions about who had the last clear opportunity to avoid the collision and whether visibility or timing broke down at the conflict point. Troopers said the investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators will likely examine the interchange layout, vehicle positions, impact angles, witness statements, and any onboard or nearby video evidence. In a crash involving a commercial truck and side-dump trailer, they may also review the truck’s path through the interchange and whether the trailer’s movement or turning radius played a role. This is the kind of case where a careful reconstruction matters, because side-impact collisions often turn on a few seconds of movement that are easy to miss in the first public reports.

Legal Considerations: This case involves examining intersection-control evidence and commercial-vehicle geometry rather than speed alone. If the interchange design, lane assignments, or trailer tracking caused a visibility or clearance problem, the civil analysis could be more technical than in a typical passenger-car crash. That is why crashes involving side-dump trailers and interchange movements often need a deeper review than the first report provides.

Pending the investigation outcome, Erhardt’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim. This claim provides essential financial support to surviving family members, helping cover expenses like funeral costs and medical bills. Besides monetary compensation, it holds the responsible party accountable and offers a sense of justice to Jeni’s loved ones.

To the family and loved ones of Jeni Erhardt, I extend my most sincere condolences.
